You’ve done the research. You’ve put in the hard work. You and your team have finally developed and produced a private labeled product that is sure to have you turning a profit in no-time. All that’s left to do is getting your products listed on one of the largest online shopping retailers in the world: Amazon. With close to $178 billion a year in net sales, it’s only natural for you to want your Amazon listings amongst those offered by the upper echelon of Amazon sellers.
Guidelines Meant to Help, not Hinder
So how do you make sure your Amazon listings are always visible to the hundreds of millions of active shoppers that grace their pages a year? How do you avoid getting that dreaded email that’s bearing the bad news that your listing is being suppressed from viewers? To improve the buying and selling experience on Amazon, they have implemented guidelines to guarantee your success by improving the quality of your listing. If you do find yourself in the unfortunate situation with your listing being suppressed, just know that it’s not a death sentence, but rather an opportunity for success.
The best way to prevent your private labeled product listing from being suppressed is to know exactly what causes it in the first place.
Keep it Simple
People choose online retail over getting into the car and driving to a brick and mortar store simply for the speed of which they can accomplish their shopping goals. They want to be able to find exactly what they want in the shortest amount of time, so you should cater to that need. Don’t risk having them move onto a competitor’s listing because your title is too long. Keeping the title of your listing short and to the point with exact details also has the added benefit of improved visibility for certain keyword and product searches. Additionally, don’t include any promotional jargon like “best” or “cheapest”, as it is also a quick way of having your product suppressed.
Improve Your Visuals
Your product image is often the first thing to grab a consumer’s attention and as such is another big factor in listing suppression on Amazon. One of the biggest reasons listings are suppressed is because the image is on a white background. The focus of your listing image should be the product you’re selling, not the stuff in the background. Be sure to use a high quality image that won’t have a lot of empty space around it when it shows up on the site so the image is clearly discernible in the thumbnail.
The Info They Need
Since the title of your listing needs to be short, you have to include as much informative and pertinent information in the body of your listing as possible. Not only will your customers be better informed when making the decision to purchase your product of your competitor, it also helps prevent your listing from being suppressed. Certain key pieces of information that you need to include are the product UPC, full informative text description of the product, and bullet points highlighting the best parts of your product.
By being proactive and preemptively implementing these Amazon guidelines when creating the listing for your private labeled product, you won’t have to worry about lost revenue during the downtime it takes for you to get up to compliance. Preparation is the best defense!
