In our experience, most product entrepreneurs who sell on Amazon rely exclusively on the Amazon PPC system of advertising. Yet, in today’s world of internet marketing, we have access to so many other resources that can also help our products reach potential customers. Beginning in 1994, Amazon was marketed as an online bookstore. Today, we know it to be so much more than that, with some 244 million active users and 54 million Amazon Prime members in the US – with 2 BILLION products sold in 2014. Those are some pretty impressive numbers. However, take a look at these numbers:
- Facebook – 1.71 BILLION active monthly users
- YouTube – 1.3 BILLION active users, with 5 BILLION videos watched daily
- Twitter – 313 MILLION active monthly users
- Pinterest – 100 MILLION active monthly users
- Online Shoppers – Some 205 MILLION people in the US shop online + that will grow to 270 MILLION by 2020!
- Online Sales – $335 BILLION in 2015, climbing to $535 BILLION by 2020!
- Mobile Devices – Influence on more than $1 TRILLION in online sales, through research, price comparisons, shipping costs, etc.
So, while Amazon offers a remarkably effective platform to sell products online, you are definitely leaving potential sales out there if you’re not actively marketing your products through social media and a dedicated website, as well.

Diversify Your Product Marketing Efforts
Diversity in product marketing efforts is a huge plus for anyone selling products on Amazon, enabling you to set your products apart from others in your product niche.
For us, the numbers on mobile devices alone are reason enough to use alternative marketing platforms to Amazon alone. Even though the retail giant is considered “mobile friendly”, for consumers, hunting and pecking their way through more than 20 million products on a mobile device can be frustrating in the extreme.
On the other hand, if you create a mobile friendly product website, from which you can also post to your favorite social media platform, you’ll make finding – and buying – your products on Amazon far simpler for your customers.
