Whether you’ve been a part of our community for a week, a month or a year, chances are you’ve heard us talk about the Canton Fair. We LOVE attending this huge trade show in China. We truly believe that a quick 7 day trip to Guangzhou, China has the power to transform your life and business — and we have the proof to back it up. Every single one of our PLU students that has attended the Canton Fair with us over the years has experienced 100% success in finding products and samples to take back home and sourcing suppliers that will provide a reliable resource and future business relationship.
But here is the thing… Although the Canton Fair is held twice a year, April and October, we have found that more long-term and faster success happens after the April fair then the October fair. And for good reason.
Here are 3 reasons why:
1) You’ll miss the holiday money-making season on Amazon. The autumn session, doesn’t take place until late October. That is just a few weeks away from Black Friday in the US, which marks the beginning of the biggest selling season of the year. Between Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas, there’s a world of opportunity for sellers on Amazon… but if you attend the Canton Fair in October and find a product to sell, you won’t have that product in hand until well after the holiday season has passed. In fact, you may not have it until the following spring, which brings us to our next point.
2) There are too many Chinese holidays right after the Canton Fair, in October, that could delay production and shipping. Not only does production slow down during our holiday times here in the US and Canada but importing staff become scarce as we head into our western holidays like Christmas and New Year’s. Following the western holidays, importer get hit with the biggest Chinese holiday, the Chinese New Year (CNY), which falls in mid-February 2018. Beginning on the first day of the Chinese Lunar calendar, China will come to a screeching halt for at least a full month. Our sources are reporting that 2018 New Year closures will start in early February, and many businesses, factories, and shipping companies won’t reopen until the end of March. No matter how
much you beg, your inventory simply will not move for the weeks surrounding Chinese New Year. This is not a pleasant issue to run into during your first few months of operation!
3) There are always fewer suppliers at the October fair. By waiting until April, you will have direct access to hundreds of thousands of products from over 60,000 vendors. The vast majority of products these suppliers are showcasing will not have been released mainstream yet. And the best part? When you go to the Canton Fair in April, you’ll have front row seats to the lowest prices ANYWHERE in the world.
We mention all of this because if you’re going to spend the money to go to China, you deserve to experience immediate results. We know 100% success is possible because we watch it happen with each of our students every single year when we attend the Canton Fair together in April.
