As many of you know, we’re in China for a few weeks at the Global Sources Fair in Hong Kong and the Canton Fair in Guangzhou. We’re enjoying these busy few weeks that involve speaking, teaching and training, and of course, checking out the newest, hottest products at the fairs.
We just LOVE being back in these energized environments. Visiting an international trade show truly is the experience of a lifetime. Today we want to just quickly share 3 ways we’re seeing the lives of our students from the Private Label University change as they meet vendors, test products, and build the foundation for a trusting, life-long relationship with their supplier.
(1) The Element of Discovery
When you source products online, you have to use keywords as you search. This typically means you’ll need to have a good idea of what you’re looking for in order to connect with a supplier that is a good fit for you.
At an international trade fair, however, sellers have the opportunity to enjoy the element of exploration and discovery. We’ve already met tons of people who have shown up to the fair with no specific product in mind. We love bearing witness to the energy and anticipation that comes from a seller discovering new products that they may have never thought of before. And of course, we always enjoy the element of discovery ourselves, too!
(2) The Element of Selection
The Global Sources and Canton Fair shows are both massive in their scope. In just one day at a fair, sellers can look at and test hundreds of products. You can peruse products from different categories with ease. You can even talk with a handful of different suppliers who all manufacture the same product to ensure you’re making a good sourcing fit for your business. There is literally nowhere else in the world that offers this type of selection all in one place. International trade fairs are truly unique in the way they enable sellers to get their business off the ground in a matter of days. We’re having so much fun watching the PLU sellers that are here with us enjoy this aspect of the Canton Fair experience!
(3) The Element of Confidence
At an international trade fair, you can source with a level of confidence that is simply impossible to find when you’re sourcing online. Because you’re face-to-face with vendors, you can verify the quality of the product, that they are who they say they are, and that they truly do have the capacity to manufacture the product for you. And of course, there is nothing like being able to look at, touch and feel, and of course actually test the products (and so many products at that!) before making your sourcing decisions.
