A number of our students have been asking about Amazon’s FBA fulfillment centers lately. More specifically, they’re wondering where the warehouses are located.
First of all, Amazon doesn’t openly publish the various locations of their warehouses. With some careful research, however, we can find some answers.
According to MWPVL International, as of December 2016 Amazon has almost 100 fulfillment and redistribution centers in North America, including six in Canada and one just outside Mexico City. Click here for a comprehensive list. That page also includes exhaustive lists of Amazon Pantry and Amazon Fresh centers, Regional Sorting Centers, Delivery Stations, and Amazon Prime Now hubs.
The other resource we love comes to us from TaxJar.com. Using independent research, news stories about new fulfillment centers, interviews with current FBA sellers, and even postings on Amazon’s job boards, TaxJar has another complete list of Amazon fulfillment centers in North America. As far as we can tell, they are constantly updating this list as new fulfillment centers are built, whereas MWPVL’s research was a one-off.
If you’re more visual, here are the fulfillment center locations charted out on a map.
Perhaps you’re wondering, why does this even matter? Who cares where Amazon’s fulfillment centers are located?

Until 2013, fulfillment center locations in the US were determined based on state tax considerations. Because a fulfillment center didn’t classify as a retail store, Amazon was technically within the letter of the law to not charge sales tax to consumers with the exception of five staves.
Of course, things have now changed. Currently 28 states have introduced internet sales tax legislation, with more states expected to follow shortly.
For FBA sellers, this means collecting sales tax. Housing inventory in a state – even in an Amazon fulfillment center – gives a seller “sales tax nexus” in that state. In other words, the seller is required to collect sales tax on all sales made to buyers in any state where they house inventory in an Amazon fulfillment center.
