Do you want to sell a product, or do you want to build a brand?
If you want to sell a product, that’s great, and we’d love to help, but this post might not be for you.
If you want to build a brand that can earn you money for years to come, keep reading.
To build a successful private label brand, you’ll have to do more than find a product and list it on Amazon.
Here are 3 tips to build your private label brand.
1. Define your mission.
Building a successful brand requires more than desire. You need a mission!
It might seem unnecessary, but your mission actually forms the foundation of your business.
Your mission will determine the products you sell, how you market them, the content you create, and nearly everything else about your business.
When things don’t go well (because sometimes running a business is hard), your mission is what will motivate you to persevere.
Not sure what your company mission is? Here are some questions to get you started:
- Why should people care about your business? Why do YOU care about it?
- What does your brand contribute to the world?
- What problem does your business solve?
- Where do you see your business in 1 year? In 5 years?
- How is your brand different from others? What makes it unique?
- What do you want people to think when they see your brand? How do you want them to feel?
2. Create a website (with a blog).
Since you already have a platform to sell your product (Amazon), you might think you don’t need a website. We disagree.
Your website shows customers you’re not a phantom company. There’s a real person behind your product. That can go a long way with people.
Additionally, your blog is an opportunity to show your expertise in your niche. By blogging about topics relevant to your industry, you’ll position yourself as an authority and build trust with your audience and customers.
You can eventually branch out into your own ecommerce business with your own branded private label products. By that time, you’ll have built a following with your Amazon customers, and you can bring them with you.
3. Start Content Marketing.
While PPC marketing on Amazon is certainly a valuable tool, it’s only part of the equation. If you want to really build your brand, it’s worth your time to start creating content and marketing outside Amazon.
Content marketing allows you to build your brand authority even further. You can do this by…
- Utilizing social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.)
- Creating a YouTube channel where you provide short tutorials about how to use your product or accomplish tasks in your niche
- Write a helpful eBook in your niche
Create content that helps people and asks for nothing in return. You may be asking:
“Yeah, but how does this help me sell my product?”
Think of it like this:
Nike has free fitness apps. They don’t try to sell anything on the apps, either. They help users and ask for nothing in return.
When people use those apps, they associate fitness with Nike. So, when they’ve got extra money to buy new workout clothes—what’s the first brand they think of?
Probably Nike.
Content marketing is a long game, but so is brand-building. Take the time to do it and you’ll be working to build a company that will be around for the long run.
